Portal Knights Nintendo Switch Review: Through the Looking Glass

Portal Knights Nintendo Switch Review

When I first reviewed Portal Knights on the PS4 earlier this year, I remember being surprised by how it mixed elements of other games together to create a really cohesive package. I think perhaps the only thing that could have improved the experience would have been the ability to play it on a handheld console when on the move and then pick up where I left off. Now, the Nintendo Switch version of Portal Knights is slated to offer exactly that experience, but is it still as good as it was, or has something been lost in translation? Fortnite (Founders Edition) Review: Minecraft vs Zombies

Fortnite

[Disclosure: A review copy was provided for the contents of this article]

As far as genre mash-ups go, Fortnite stretches the limits of imagination by cramming themes and mechanics from an astonishing array of other games into a single package. Mowing down zombies in Fortnite reminds me of playing Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, not just because it has a similar cooperative zombie killing theme, but also because it has an almost identical graphical style. Meanwhile, the mining and resource gathering elements in Fortnite work just like a stripped down version of Minecraft, or every other mining game if I’m totally honest. Base building is like Fallout 4 but more refined, whilst the character progression elements are a much more confusing version of Battlefield. State of Decay and Timesplitters are in there too, as is the weapon-craziness of Borderlands. There are just too many influences to name! Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Review – Bore de Force

Yonder Review

[Disclosure: A review code was provided for the contents of this article]

My daughter, who is almost three, loves Yonder: The Cloud Catcher. I want to love it. I know you’re looking at the screenshots now, staring, longing, wanting to love it. It looks lovely. It is lovely. The problem is, it’s kind of boring too. You see my daughter is still of an age where I try to keep her away from games that involve manning a light machine gun and laying down fire across a blood-soaked battlefield, but believe it nor, that’s the kind of thing I like. Portal Knights Review: A Bright Start

Portal Knights Review

[Disclosure: A review copy was provided for the contents of this article]

Despite it having been out for over a year on the PC, I’d never heard of Portal Knights. Within an hour of booting it up, I immediately knew why, and that realisation made me sad. The reason me, you and probably many others have glanced past Portal Knights is because it is so reminiscent of just a ton of other games that you’ll have played elsewhere. Minecraft, Terraria, Dragon Quest Builders, Zelda – they are all here, and that’s cutting the list short if I’m being perfectly honest. Continue reading “Portal Knights Review: A Bright Start”
